In contrast, unfiltered brewing methods such as espresso, French press, or Turkish coffee allow these lipid-raising compounds to stay in the beverage. Experts also underscored that adding excessive refined sugar, artificial flavorings, or heavy creamers diminishes the positive metabolic effects associated with regular coffee consumption.

Marcus, a member of the writing committee, noted that although consuming up to 400 milligrams of caffeine daily is generally safe for most adults, individual sensitivity varies significantly due to genetics, age, and health conditions. Marcus explained that short-term caffeine intake can temporarily increase blood pressure, heart rate, and blood glucose levels, particularly among infrequent consumers. The statement distinctly separates regular brewed coffee from high-concentration caffeine products like energy drinks and energy shots. The latter, especially in high doses, can substantially raise the risk of arterial hypertension and arrhythmias, whereas moderate coffee intake shows no such harmful effects.

The American Heart Association recommends that individuals with uncontrolled hypertension, severe anxiety, insomnia, or specific arrhythmias consult healthcare providers before adjusting caffeine intake. Pregnant and breastfeeding women are advised to adhere to lower daily consumption limits according to medical guidelines. The panel also acknowledged that more randomized controlled trials are necessary to clarify the precise biological mechanisms and the influence of genetic variations in caffeine metabolism.
